Take a snapshot of a virtual machine

Introduction

Snapshots of a virtual machine can be used to preserve the current virtual machine state and data. In VMware Cloud Director you can have only one snapshot of a virtual machine.

Snapshots should be used as a short-term solution, for example when testing updates, software installation or other configuration changes. Snapshots should not be considered as a replacement for virtual machine backups. For best virtual machine performance, we recommend that you don't keep snapshots for longer than necessary, since it might impact virtual machine disk operations negatively.

Virtual machines cannot be connected to an independent disk.
