Activate Remote Desktop Services (RDS)

Introduction

The intention of this guide is to show how to report RDS licenses in compliance with Microsoft Service Provider License Agreement (SPLA).

Prerequisites

To perform these steps, you must have access to Remote Desktop Licensing Manager and the Cloudist Solutions Microsoft SPLA agreement number.

Procedure

To activate a Remote Desktop license server via Internet

  • On the license server, open Remote Desktop Licensing Manager

    • Click Start

    • Go to Administrative Tools, point to Remote Desktop Services and then click Remote Desktop Licensing Manager

  • Right-click the license server that you want to activate and then click Activate Server

  • Click Next

  • On the Connection Method page in the Connection method list, select Automatic connection (recommended)

  • Click Next

  • Enter your details and on the Country or Region Selection page

  • Select your Country or Region

  • Click Next

  • Enter additional contact information if support by Microsoft is requested, and then click Next 

  • Click Next to start the Install Licenses Wizard

  • When the Wizard is open click Next to Start

  • In the License Program drop-down menu choose: Service Provider License Agreement

  • Click Next

  • In Agreement number enter the Cloudist Solutions SPLA agreement number provided by a Cloudist Solutions representative

  • Click Next

  • Select your Product Version and License Type

  • In Quantity enter the required number of the licenses you want to install

  • Click Next 

When reporting monthly usage under https://portal.cloudist.se → SPLA, you only report the quantity of actual used licenses.

Example: You install 123 licenses as below, however you only use 104 licenses, then you should report 104 RDS licenses as monthly usage.
